Weber’s Rapidfire Chimney Starter. Great deal! Great Product!

weber charcoal chimeney Webers Rapidfire Chimney Starter. Great deal! Great Product!

I really appreciate it when I can find a Barbecue accessory that:

  • Won’t break the bank.
  • Looks good – all the time.
  • Will last along time.
  • Safe to use.
  • Easy to use.
  • Large enough to hold lots of charcoal.

The Weber 7416 Rapidfire Chimney Starter Webers Rapidfire Chimney Starter. Great deal! Great Product! fits those requirements and more! It is one solid charcoal chimney. Durable aluminized steel and a stay-cool thermoplastic handle make it one of the better looking chimney’s out there.

Mine sits out in view of everyone in my barbecue area, so I appreciate it not looking like a rusted tin can. It’s large, measuring 7-1/2 by 7-1/2 by 12 inches, this will hold enouth charcoal to get a couple of 12″ Dutch oven’s or a 21″ kettle going; approximately 100 briquettes or 6 pounds worth of Kingsford Charcoal Briquets.

I have purchased those other charcoal chimney’s and have seen them fall apart in one season. Aluminized steal is going to look good for a long time. The Weber 7416 Rapidfire Chimney Starter is designed to do one thing and do that one thing very well, light charcoal and light it fast. No toxic chemicals are needed to start the charcoal, just a piece of papper – as Green as charcoal is going to get.

The secret to the Weber 7416 Rapidfire Chimney Starter  lighting charcoal so fast that you won’t go back to fluid is it’s very efficient airflow and conical wire grid inside that holds up the charcoal. Unlike perforated metal plate inside the no-name chimney starters, this wire grid lets all of the flame from the newspaper through to the charcoal, resulting in the charcoal lighting in half the time of fluid lit charcoal.

The unique heat shield keeps the handle cool and Weber even provided an additional handle to help pour the charcoal out when its done.

In my post 6 tips for a beginner Dutch oven cooks you can see my Weber 7416 Rapidfire Chimney Starter Webers Rapidfire Chimney Starter. Great deal! Great Product! at work.

Here’s three tips for starting charcoal with your Weber Rapidfire® Chimney Starter

  1. Use only one full sheet of newspaper to light your charcoal.
  2. Add a couple of drops of vegetable oil to the paper!
  3. Wad the newspaper up tight!

Always be safe!

  • Never light the charcoal chimney when it is sitting on the ground! (Grass, sticks, wood and even concrete will burn).
  • Wear heavy heat resitant gloves when holding your chimney!
  • The Weber charcoal chimney will stay hot even after the coals have been removed!

6 Tips for a beginner Dutch oven cook.

2565203771 f5efe58e31 m 6 Tips for a beginner Dutch oven cook.

Tip #1

You don’t need a fancy cooking table! I have cooked many meals on my garbage can lid. Just find a 32 gallon galvanized garbage can lid at your local hardware store. Break off the handle, stomp on it a little to get it flat and now you have a go anywhere cooking platform!

Tip #2

Use a charcoal chimney to light your coals. It’s fast and re-usable. I load the bottom of mine up with one sheet of newspaper. Don’t use charcoal fluid! Yes, I know it’s quicker, it also leaves a smell on your Dutch oven, a smell in the air and it is a known carcinogen.

Do the math! If you are cooking with one 12″ Dutch oven then light no more than 24 briquettes. Basic cooking requires double the diameter of your pot, don’t waste your charcoal, take the time to count them out. Last time I checked, the price is going up not down.  (I’ll go into temperature specifics in another post)

Tip #4

Patience! When you light your paper, let it do it’s job. It will burn from the bottom up. If the smoke stops and you don’t feel any heat from the top, stick one more piece of newspaper in the bottom and give it a light.

Tip # 5

Don’t wait till the coals are completely grey! I can’t tell you how many times I have seen people prep there coals for barbecuing instead of Dutch oven cooking. The coals should only be grey on the sides, this will give you maximum heat and cooking time. If you wait till they are completely grey you have lost a lot of your heat.

Tip #6

Preheating is your friend! A hot Dutch oven cooks better than a cold dutch oven. Since the heat travels up, you can save your Dutch oven a lot of time by pre-heating the lid. This is a must for baking! If your frying first, might as well put those extra hot coals to work, pre-heat the lid. This will make life a little easier.

Hope this helps!
