Skillet Chicken Casserole Recipe

This is the time of year for comfort food!I have never looked to see if this is a common recipe or an old recipe, heck I don't even know if it has a proper name, we just call it Skillet Chicken Casserole. Originally I made this using Turkey breast but it is easier to find boneless skinless chicken breast that Turkey breast. I simply combined two of my favorite holiday dishes, Turkey breast (or chicken) and Green Bean Casserole, into one recipe and never looked back. I baked this skillet recipe in my new Camp Chef Italia Pizza oven just to make sure I could easily accomplish this while camping or in my backyard if the power goes out and it (Camp Chef Italia Pizza oven), as I expected worked perfectly with this recipe.

Skillet Chicken Casserole Recipe

The most important step to this recipe is pre-heating your skillet!

I used a 12″ Cast iron skillet for my recipe and I pre-heated the skillet and the Camp Chef Italia Pizza oven for about 15 minutes on medium heat which is approximately 400° F. This of course varies with each stove and the external weather conditions.

My Camp Chef Italia Pizza oven fits on top of my Camp Chef Big Gas Grill #SPG90B when I am cooking with it. Pat dry your chicken breast dry, then salt and pepper them on all sides.

When your skillet is pre-heated properly, oil your skillet and place chicken breasts in the skillet, slide into the Camp Chef Italia Pizza oven and brown both sides. This took me all of ten minutes to accomplish.

Once those chicken breasts are done browning, add 1 pound of frozen green beans to the skillet and work them in around the chicken breasts.

Mix 1 can of Cream of Mushroom, 1 can Cream of Chicken soup, 1 tsp of Worcestershire sauce and 1/2 cup of milk together. Pour over green beans and chicken, mix slightly together.

Place back into the Camp Chef Italia Pizza oven to bake for 15 minutes or until chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165° F.

When your chicken is done, sprinkle the top with fried onions and bake for another 2 -3 minutes to brown the fried onions up.

I love to serve this with rice, cranberry sauce and a nice green salad.

Note:
The Camp Chef Italia Pizza oven worked better than I expected, not saying that I expected it to fail but it was so simple to cook with that it performed better than anticipated. Pre-heat, insert skillet and cook. This recipe worked so flawlessly with the pizza oven that I decide to do some baking with it the next day. You'll see that soon!
